Die Repair Built Around Getting Your Press Line Running Again

When a die fails mid-production, the clock starts immediately. Lost press time, delayed shipments, and scrambling to find a shop that can handle the work fast are situations every stamping operation faces eventually, and how quickly you resolve them depends entirely on who you call.

Tool Tech performs emergency and scheduled die repair at our Springfield, Ohio, facility. We carry in-house tool steel inventory so we are not waiting on material to start your job. Our toolmakers, CNC machinists, wire EDM operators, and grinding department all work under one roof, which means a die component can be reverse engineered, machined, ground, and inspected without leaving our facility.

We also offer scheduled repair and refurbishment programs for operations that want to stay ahead of failures rather than react to them. Whether you need emergency repair today or a structured maintenance program for your tooling, Tool Tech has the equipment and experience to handle it.

Our Cabilities

Emergency Repair Fast turnaround on emergency die repair for stamping dies, progressive dies, transfer dies, and fixtures. We carry an in-house tool steel inventory to eliminate material lead time. Local pickup and delivery available for customers in the Springfield and Dayton area. Call us, and we can arrange it the same day.

Scheduled Repair & Refurbishment Not every repair is an emergency. We work with customers on planned repair and refurbishment programs to recondition tooling before it fails, sharpen worn components, replace damaged inserts, recondition die shoes, and address issues that arise during production before they lead to downtime.

Reverse Engineering When the prints don't exist — or the original shop is no longer in business, our team uses a Hexagon Absolute Arm with AS1 laser scanning, Keyence XM5000 Mobile CMM, and Brown & Sharpe CMM to reverse-engineer tooling and produce accurate models and drawings before repair work begins. No prints required.

In-House Machining & Grinding Die repair is not just weld and grind. Our full CNC machining floor, wire EDM department, and surface grinding department enable us to manufacture replacement components from scratch to the exact geometry the die requires, rather than patching components that should be replaced.

CMM Inspection & Verification Every repaired die component goes through inspection before it ships. Our CMM department, Hexagon Absolute Arm, Keyence Mobile CMM, Brown & Sharpe CMM, and Mitutoyo CMM, verifies geometry and confirms the repair meets spec before your tooling comes back to your floor.

Materials, Tolerances, and Applications

Die repair work covers a wide range of failure types, broken punches, worn die sections, cracked retainers, chipped cutting edges, worn guide components, and damaged die shoes. The right repair approach depends on the failure mode, the material, and how the die is being run.

At Tool Tech, we assess each repair job individually. Some components are best replaced entirely. Machined from new tool steel stock on our CNC floor. Others are reconditioned through grinding, EDM rework, or welding and remachining. When the original design contributed to the failure, our toolmakers and designers can recommend changes to reduce repeat failures and extend tool life between repairs.

Common repair work includes progressive dies, compound dies, transfer tooling, trim dies, form dies, and custom fixtures for steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and high-strength alloy applications.
