Precision Wire EDM Built Around What Your Program Demands

Wire EDM is the process of choice when you need tight-tolerance cuts in hardened tool steel, complex internal geometries that milling cannot reach, or intricate contours where heat-affected zones are not acceptable. It is also the right call when a die component needs to be cut from a fully hardened block, after heat treatment, to hold the final geometry without distortion.

At Tool Tech, wire EDM is not a secondary service. We have been running Mitsubishi EDM equipment for over 30 years and have built our programming, work holding, and machine knowledge around one goal: eliminating risks due to dates while delivering short lead times to our customers.

Our programmers are trained directly by EdgeCam and run the latest software versions. Our extensive workholding library lets us set up efficiently and run even the most challenging parts without downtime between setups. When standard workholding won't work, our in-house designers build custom solutions on the spot.

Our Capabilities

Equipment Three Mitsubishi wire EDM machines — MV4800, MV2400R, and FA20, plus a Current ST300 EDM Drill. Max workpiece capacity of 49.2" × 40.1" × 20" and max travel of 31.5" × 23.6" × 20". Our in-house parts inventory keeps downtime low and throughput high across all four machines.

Programming & Design All CNC programming is handled in-house using EdgeCam, with programmers trained directly from EdgeCam on the latest software versions. Our designers work from your drawings or 3D models across all major CAD formats. Centralized programming means your job does not sit in a queue waiting on an outside programmer.

Work Holding Our extensive work holding library allows us to set up efficiently and eliminate downtime between parts. For jobs where standard work holding won't cut it, our in-house design team builds custom solutions, allowing us to accurately run even the most challenging geometries without sending work elsewhere.

Materials & Applications Wire EDM is suitable for virtually any electrically conductive material, hardened tool steel, carbide, titanium, aluminum, brass, copper, and high-strength alloys. Common applications include die components, punch plates, extrusion dies, medical components, aerospace structural parts, and precision gear profiles.

Additional Services Beyond wire cutting, Tool Tech offers bead blasting, marking, protective dipping, pre-wire block prep, and secondary operations, all in-house. This means a part can go from raw block to finished product via EDM cutting and finishing without leaving our facility, reducing handling, lead time, and the risk of damage in transit.

Materials, Tolerances, and Applications

Wire EDM cuts by erosion rather than mechanical force, which means there is no cutting pressure, no heat-affected zone, and no tool deflection. The result is dimensional accuracy that conventional milling and grinding cannot match on hardened materials.

Common work on our Wire EDM floor includes die components and punch plates cut after heat treat, precision extrusion dies, form blocks, stripper plates, complex internal profiles in carbide and tool steel, aerospace structural components in titanium and Inconel, and medical device components where surface finish and geometry are equally critical.

For customers who need geometry that conventional milling cannot produce, internal corners approaching sharp, tapers, or profiles in fully hardened stock, we route that work directly to our wire EDM machines. Having EDM and CNC machining under the same roof means we can machine the surrounding structure and wire the precision detail as one job, without shipping work between vendors or managing two purchase orders.

Industries We Serve

Tool Tech serves manufacturers across automotive, aerospace, medical, defense, logistics, and industrial sectors, and we are not limited to any one of them. If your program requires precision tooling, CNC machining, wire EDM, water jet cutting, or custom machine building, our shop has the equipment and experience to handle it. We have served OEM and Tier 1 suppliers, medical device manufacturers, aerospace contractors, and industrial operations from our Springfield facility for over 40 years. If you make parts that require tight tolerances and reliable delivery, we are the right shop.

Wire EDM Services in Springfield, Dayton, and Across Ohio

Tool Tech is located at 4901 Urbana Road in Springfield, Ohio — within easy reach of Dayton, Columbus, and manufacturers across western and central Ohio. Our wire EDM department runs Mitsubishi equipment that most regional shops don't have, backed by 30 years of experience that shows in how we handle complex jobs, tight schedules, and the kind of work other shops turn away.

If you are searching for wire EDM services in Ohio and need a shop that understands the tooling side of the work — not just the cutting — Tool Tech is the call. We serve die shops, OEM tooling departments, contract manufacturers, and aerospace suppliers who need precision wire EDM done right the first time.

For customers outside the immediate area, we coordinate pickup, shipping, and delivery and can turn around standard wire EDM jobs faster than most shops charge rush premiums for.
